From festival roots to a year-round retreat.
The storied legacy of the Ness Creek Site.
Our story
Nestled in the heart of Saskatchewan’s boreal forest, the Ness Creek Site is a vibrant four-season destination and event facility. Best known as the home of the legendary Ness Creek Music Festival – an annual gathering that has drawn music lovers, artists and free spirits together for over 30 years – the site has a long history of hosting world-class events. It is also home to the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old-Tyme Music Camp and Festival, the biennial EMMA International Artist Collaborative and countless other cultural gatherings, weddings, retreats and family getaways.
Beyond its events, Discover Ness Creek is an ecotourism destination, offering a chance to experience the boreal wilderness through cabin rentals, hiking trails and outdoor education programs. Each year, students from across the province visit to learn about the rich ecology, history and cultural significance of the land. The site is just minutes away from the serene Nesslin Lake Campground and the resort town of Big River, making it an ideal base for adventurers looking to explore the region.
The Ness Creek Site is a place of natural wonder, bordering the untamed western edge of Prince Albert National Park and sitting at the convergence of two major watersheds – the Churchill River and the North Saskatchewan River systems. The surrounding forest, marked by a history of fire and renewal, is home to diverse plant and wildlife, from towering aspen and spruce to moose, black bears, otters and wolves. Historically, Indigenous peoples traveled these lands, leaving behind evidence of their presence in the form of worked stones. Chief Kenemotayoo, known for bringing together several bands in the region over a century ago, used the area’s trails – including the historic Kenemotayoo Trail, also known as ‘the 57’ – to navigate between Stoney Lake (Delaronde Lake) and what is now Prince Albert National Park.
Overseeing the stewardship and development of this remarkable site is Ness Core Ventures, an entity that holds shares in the land and ensures its continued growth as a hub for arts, culture and nature-based tourism. Discover Ness Creek operates as the tourism destination arm, providing visitors with unique opportunities to connect with the land, whether through events, cozy cabin stays or immersive outdoor experiences.
